Tarryn and Matthew’s Mohonk Mountain House Wedding was straight out of a fairy tale. Their early June wedding in the garden was picture perfect.

When Sean contacted me about photographing his proposal at Mohonk I was instantly into the idea. His plan was to propose at Copes Lookout which is a short hike from Mohonk Mountain House and has an amazing view of the Shawangunk Ridge. It sounded like a perfect Mohonk engagement!
His plan was to propose at Copes no matter what the weather was. And for the end of January in the Hudson Valley you never know what the weather will bring. Fortunately it was in the high 30’s and sunny that day. Though I really wouldn’t have minded if there was a few feet of snow and I had a chance to rock my snowshoes.
When I got there I touched base with wedding planner Danielle of Every Little Detail and then picked my spot overlooking the gazebo that he was going to propose at. As they approached I tried to look like a tourist so she wouldn’t suspect anything.
They went to the gazebo and he presented her with a ring. And she said yes! At that point I got a little closer, but I was mindful not to interrupt their moment. Sean played her a video that he had made of friends and family wishing them well and talking about what a great couple they are.
They poured some champagne and I introduced myself. We took some photos at the lookout and then a few more quick photos back at the Mohonk Mountain House.
Shoots like this are why I love my job. I’m so privileged to get to see people at these monumental times of their lives, and to capture that for them. Thanks Sean and Corinne for trusting me to document your Mohonk Engagement and I wish you all the best!

Ginny and Remya live in Pennsylvania but decided to get married at Mohonk Mountain House. Remya’s grandfather worked there a long time ago so she was familiar with the historic hotel. They also chose to get married in New York because Pennsylvania does not recognize same-sex marriage. Mohonk is a great place for Hudson Valley gay weddings.
They’ve known each other since college but only recently reconnected. Since they were having a Hudson Valley destination wedding I didn’t get a chance to meet with them when they booked me. Fortunately I had an opportunity to meet them a few days before the wedding for coffee and we all clicked. I could see right away that they were both great people and a great couple.
There were passing showers that delayed the wedding, but then the sun came out and shined on everyone. Theirs was a small intimate ceremony in the garden officiated by a friend. They were led to the Mohonk garden by The Saints of Swing playing ragtime music in a grand parade which was lots of fun for everyone. I was only there for the ceremony and the cocktail reception, but I had a great time and I could plainly see the love that they have for one another and also the love from their friends. Overall it was a great day and I wish them all the happiness in the world.
When I first met Desmond & Brenda to discuss their Mohonk Wedding I could tell instantly how in love they were. They were so absolutely focused on each other. It was the second marriage for both of them. They each had family of their own but when they were brought together it was just one big family that belongs together. I felt such a sense of connectedness and celebration at their wedding.I couldn’t wait for their Mohonk Wedding photos.
They chose Mohonk as their location for a destination wedding because they had stayed there before and knew it was a great place for so many reasons. Brenda’s family traveled from Long Island and beyond and Desmond had family travel all the way from Ireland for their Mohonk Wedding. The ceremony was in the parlor because of the threat of rain. Flowers by Elissa did an amazing job, as usual. Next we did family photos on the porch with the cliffs of Lake Mohonk as the backdrop. Then we did portraits of the newlyweds in the gardenwhich was full of color and lush in the late summer . The light was constantly changing but the photos came out great with a very dramatic feel to them.

May and Terrence has a storybook Mohonk Wedding at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY. They live in the NYC but they chose to have a Mohonk wedding because it’s a the perfect Hudson Valley wedding venue. The weather was perfect and the gardens were in full bloom in late August. Mohonk’s garden theme this year was “crayons” so it was a veritable palette of color. I always love shooting in the garden at Mohonk because it’s always different and always unique.
Their first look in the garden was a nice way for them to get to see each other before the wedding and also a really nice photo op. May’s gown was stunning and the flowers by Flowers By Elissa were gorgeous and added just the right touch. If you ever need wedding flowers check her out!
The ceremony in the garden was officiated by a family friend. The bride entered in a horse drawn carriage entrance really set the tone. After the ceremony we did family photos in the garden as well as portraits of the newlyweds. The garden is always a focal point at a Mohonk Wedding and this was no exception.
The reception featured music by the Gerard Carelli Orchestra and the sound was amazing, which came as no surprise since the bride is a musician herself. The music was great and everyone had a wonderful time dancing. Overall it was a storybook Mohonk wedding. But don’t take my word for it. Check out the photos below and let me know what you think.

Karin and A.J. decided to celebrate their fifteenth anniversary by having a Mohonk Mountain House vow renewal ceremony at Mohonk Mountain House. Rev. Diane help them to create a ceremony that was meaningful to both them and their four children. It was a wonderful ceremony and clearly was as meaningful to their children as it was to them.
