A Backyard Wedding in the Catskills
John and Alison’s backyard wedding in the Catskills in Margaretville NY was perfect. John grew up in the Hudson Valley and now lives in Michigan. Since his parents have a beautiful home in Margaretville, the couple decided it would be the perfect spot for an intimate backyard wedding on the 4th of July!
I didn’t have a chance to meet them in person before the wedding, but we were able to set up a video chat and I got to know them better. To say that I was psyched to shoot their wedding is an understatement.
The week leading up to the wedding was just a little frightening. And that’s only because it rained. Thankfully, on their wedding day it was mostly cloudy with the sun peeking through a little bit.
The ceremony was originally supposed to be on the top of a giant hill overlooking John’s parents’ property, but because of the mud (leftover from the rain), they opted to have the ceremony behind the house and next to a little brook. We still managed to make it to the top of the hill for some portraits though. With panoramic views, it was breathtaking.
Despite the change of plan, the ceremony was lovely. In fact, when I asked them about music Alison said the brook would be the soundtrack for the party. It made for great ambiance during the ceremony.
The party was low key with a pig roast by
Hickory BBQ Smokehouse and vintage rentals by
Hudson Valley Vintage Rentals (things like mismatched china, Hobnail goblets and vases). Everyone enjoyed dinner and conversation by the brook. It was a perfect backyard summer wedding.
